Last year I had the chance to attend an event called Bosses in Motion organized by Daphney Paul. Daphney is a woman whom I like to say does it all. She’s a mother of 3, a pro makeup artist, a sister, an event planner, a stylist, and I mean the list goes on. I first discovered her page from a mutual follower, and have been a fan of her makeup artistry since then. When the pandemic hit, she was hosting 1-on-1 makeup classes and I signed up for a class. During our session, Daphney was very nice, she laughed a lot and made me feel like we knew each other for years. Ever since then we’ve been friends. When I saw the flyer for Bosses in Motion Club, at first I wasn’t sure if I should attend because I didn’t have a business and I wasn’t sure if I would be starting one soon. She encouraged me to attend and I’m glad that I did.

Bosses in Motion is an exclusive dinner event for men and women in business to join in deep conversations to give insight, boost connections, & provide hope to those seeking to start a business. The purpose of the dinner is to network, ask for help on how to brand or rebrand your business. The dinner was hosted by Maii and Music by Dj Sammy Sam. The dinner was very intimate with a selected amount of attendees.. I had the chance to meet many new faces and discovered new businesses. I left the dinner feeling so inspired to step out of my comfort zone and just start. I’m the type of person who for the most part holds myself back from accomplishing a lot of things because I tend to focus on hardships or not having enough funding to start. I have heard it time and time again, starting is the hardest part but you have to just do it, take the risk, learn what needs to be learned. It will not be an easy road but if you are determined you will succeed.

Soon after the dinner, I decided that I was going to stop doing my hobbies as hobbies and to turn it into another stream of income. I had started making earrings for fun and practicing. I was hesitant to put my work out there but I decided to turn making earrings as a hobby into a business and haven’t looked back. I was making earrings and giving them to family and friends. Valentine’s Day was coming up, I was honestly debating if I should launch the business. After pondering on it too long I decided to set a date to release a Valentine’s Day collection. Setting the date helped me stay accountable and I delivered. If I hadn’t set the date, I would have gone around in circles about my work not being perfect and Valentine’s Day would’ve passed and I wouldn’t have any earrings to sell.

I attended another Bosses in Motion dinner last month, there were more guests than the first dinner. The theme for this year’s dinner was “revamping”. I was excited to see what was in store for the attendees and once again Daphney did not disappoint. Talk about women empowerment! I found myself once again in a room full of business men & women coming together to network. The best part about it for me is everyone sharing about their business; their struggles, tips and tricks, motivating and uplifting one another and supporting each other by following each other on our social media platform. During the dinner, I had the chance to tell others about my experience from the first dinner and I was really proud that I was able to introduce my new business.

The next Bosses in Motion is in the works, the date is set for June 5,2021. I’m looking forward to what Daphney have in store for us next. If you have a business or thinking about starting a business, Bosses in Motion club is the perfect opportunity to meet other bosses, network, enjoy live performances, listen to a motivational speaker, ask questions and enjoy a nice meal together. The club is expanding, it’s not too late to become a member. For more info contact: bossesinmotion@gmail.com
