In the midst of the pandemic, dealing with work and family, one day in late November I was scrolling on instagram I'm not sure how I came across a page that sold clay earrings. Intrigued to know more, I went on youtube to watch videos of clay earrings making. After watching about 20 videos and discovering other pages on instagram, I thought; this looks fun and easy to make. I’m a crafty person, I love doing DIYs and being creative in general so I decided to give it a try. Amazon was my first stop to buying the tools I needed to start making earrings myself. I used the videos I watched on YouTube as a reference for the tools I needed to purchase. Over the next couple of weeks, I had packages being delivered almost everyday. It started to be an obsession, each day I would find something else to buy. From what I have learned, clay jewelry making has been around for quite some time but it became a trend again in the beginning of the pandemic. I joined the bandwagon late! It was difficult to find clay because of a shortage of clay, however I was able to buy some colors.

Once I started making the earrings, I was so hooked that I would spend hours creating. In a sense it felt very relaxing and helped me to stay off of social media and spend less time on my phone. The first batch of earrings that I made I wasn’t too pleased with the way they turned out but each time I saw progress. My mom has been very supportive, she wants a pair of earrings for every design that I’ve made. The holidays were approaching and one of the clay makers' page that I followed introduced a gift exchange. At first I was hesitant to participate because I had just started making earrings but I challenged myself and signed up to participate. I do not regret participating because I was able to send my creation to 5 makers, and I also received a gift from 5 makers. Participating in the gift exchange allowed for others to showcase their work, and give us the opportunity to support one another. Through the gift exchange I was able to discover more clay makers and followed their pages.

Fast forward to now, I am preparing to have a giveaway with Kabbdesigns for Valentines day. I will have the details soon on my instagram. I have been working consistently preparing a valentine’s day collection that will be available soon on Etsy. In the meantime please check out jihsclaycreations for all updates.
